May 31st Special meeting

May 31st Special meeting

The club held a special meeting on May 31st at On tap in Stow. In addition to good food and good conversation, we had a special report on voter integrity. Sharom Ealey from the Ohio Voter Integrity Project (http://www.ohiovoterintegrityproject.org/) shared some of  the prominent cases of vote fraud, including the Colman/Franken race in Minnesota in 2008.  She also shared how we can help. Through the Ohio Voter Integrity Project, you can volunteer to review voter roles for signs of fraud. You can volunteer or learn more at their website or by emailing Sharom Ealey at sealey@reagan.com.

Mike Chadsey also gave us some insight into recent developments in the Mitt Romney campaign. Mr. Romney is developing a strong presence in Ohio and will be adding 50 people to the campaign focused on Ohio, compared to the McCain campaign who had 15 people focused on Ohio on a volunteer basis. He also shared that the Romney campaign will dedicate resources to states like Wisconsin and Michigan due to positive feedback there. Further, the Romney campaign will not feature negative campaign ads, and will stick to a positive, inspiring message.

Perusing the Stow Sentry this morning I came upon the following items of interest:

1) There is a volunteer opportunity for the club to Adopt a Spot by "planting, maintaining, weeding and dead-heading the plants within their assigned site every week during the the course of the program." Sites available at the moment are the SKIP Playground North side raised bed, Service Building Sign along City Center Blvd and Maplelawn Cemetery on Darrow Road. If anyone is interested in claiming a site for the club, let me know in the comments or by email. If we get enough participants I will set it up or if you would like to volunteer by yourself call arborist Sue Motti at (330) 689-5121 or email at smotti@stow.oh.us.

2) There are also 2 opportunities to help weed and mulch fire stations in June. June 16 from 1 till 3pm they will be at Fire Station #3 on Fishcreek and June 23 from 1 till 3pm they will be at Fire Station #2 on Hudson Dr. You are encouraged to bring your own tools if possible as they will have a limited supply. As before, you can leave a comment or email me and I can set it up as a club effort or you can contact Sue Motti, who's contact information is above in item 1).

3) Finally there are two chances to meet with State Rep. Kristina Roegner (R - Hudson), one in May and one in June. On May 14th (this Monday) Rep. Roegner will be holding office hours from 9 till 10am at the Hudson Library and Historical Society, 96 Library St in Hudson. No appointment is necessary, but you can make one by contacting Rep. Roegner at (614) 466-1177 or district42@ohr.state.oh.us. On June 4th Rep. Roegner will be at the SMF Library in the conference room from 9:30 till 10am to take questions and hear comments from the public.

If you saw anything interesting I missed, leave it in the comments or email me at stowrepublicanclub@hotmail.com.
Second Lt. David Edward Rylander
The saddest item from our May 5th meeting was finding out that Stow lost one of its heroes this month. Second Lt. David Edward Rylander, 23, was killed in Logar Province, Afghanistan on May 2nd after his squad was targed by an IED. Also killed was Spc. Junot M. L. Cochilus, 34, of Charlotte, N.C. The full story can be found here: http://www.stowsentry.com/news/article/5186995. Unfortunately I learned all the details of the services today, and they occured this morning. Per the story, if anyone wants to send flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to the USO at P.O. Box 96322 Washington, DC 20090-6322.

What a wonderful meeting we had on Saturday, May 5th! We enjoyed a filling breakfast from the fine people of On Tap at 4396 Kent Rd. During breakfast, the Campaign Director for Energy in Depth (http://www.eidohio.org/) Mike Chadsey gave a very informative presentation on the topic of Hydraulic Fracturing, referred to as fracking, in Ohio. Please follow the link to the EID website for more information if you are curious about fracking or Ohio energy independance in general.
